I remember my mother has five or more, maybe ten, Persian carpets. They have been carefully stocked up somewhere inside our stockroom where maybe-useful-in-the-future-items or so as my mother would always says about those abandoned chairs, big pots, books, are kept. They are beautiful, those Persian carpets.
Carpet is not the only thing beautiful comes from Persia, or Iran. They also have music, and not only the one with Rebana, I used to practice them when I was a little girl. They have Indie-rock, jazz, heavy metal, and even rap! And in this movie, we could see (and hear) those Arctic Monkey-ish sound played by some young Iranian who live a free but fearful life.
Music is easy yet so complicated here in Iran, a country in which a girl is prohibited to sing alone in public or where you can get arrested by simply playing some guitars and drums. Music, if it is not fit in the society norms, is a crime.
You want underground? this is the real deal here in Iran. You would see how this young Iranian struggle for their music, music by their own definition, not by law, not by society, not by government.
trailer
p.s. i can't believe you can't be seen with a dog in public in Iran or else everybody can stop your car and throw your dog away just like that! awww... breaks my heart.
p.s. the director, Bahman Ghobadhi, made another very very very nice movie, Turtle Can Fly, you might want to check it out also.
p.s. they can't have party in Iran, or else they might end up in jail, or hospital, or cemetery.

"Why do You create us differently if You only want to be worshipped in one way?"
i watched cin(T)a last night, together with my boyfriend. me, happens to be a Moslem, watched this movie with a Catholic boyfriend :) as the result, i can easily relate myself to this movie.
and Cina, probably the only character from local movies i was instantly falling in love with, except for Rangga from Ada Apa Dengan Cinta, but i was just a naive young teenage girl back then in 2002, i mean, who doesn't want to have a super romantic, cold blooded poet as a boyfriend? right? or no... :D
ok, back to cin(T)a, i think could quote all the lines from those meaningful dialogues between Cina and Annisa to my father... hmmm... and perhaps he would understand us.
ok, did i mention that this almost 2 hours long movie only has two characters (ok, three but God does not have dialogue) and i did not feel bored, not even for a sec (well, you need to have sharp ears when it comes to Annisa because she speaks as if she was made of feather, but i love her anyway)
"Cina and Annisa love God
and God loves them both
But Cina and Annisa cannot love each other
because they call God by different names"
visit the official site cin(T)a
sneak peek the trailer on Youtube - Trailer cin(T)a
and go buy the original DVD and consume it, take the very core of it, that it is God that we must worship not religion, yeah! (ah, sok puguh saya mah, hehe)

Miss Diana and Mr. Fujica
you know how boys typically get obsessed with their hobbies...
so here's the thing, my boyfriend used to be obsessed with Sonic Youth, Koil, Weezer, Yeahyeahyeahs, etc.
and then he changed his mind, all he ever wanted was to be a papercrafter
and for sometimes, he did some collages
the other time, he was drowned in writing poems and prose and some craps
and he also went through japan-o-gaga-ramalamadingdong obsession
well, this list can go forever
last year, i took photography class, and i learned some basic in photography, and voila! he had a new hobby! he bought this toycam, Diana F+, and next thing i know we were on the street, wandering with his brand new camera and Fujica MPX 105, took pictures, and had so muuuchoooosss fuuuunnnooosss
unfortunately, we are selling the camera right now, Diana F+, because i'm dying to have SLR, and i need some more moneyhoney. i hope somebody somewhere meant to be together with this darling Diana.
here are some images taken with Miss Diana
